Job Opportunities

Role Title: Lower Elementary Montessori Teacher( Grades 1-3)
Fair Labor Standards Act Classification: Exempt, academic-year (10-month) position
Reports To: Head of School
Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Westside Montessori School (WMS) is looking for Lower Elementary Montessori teachers for the 2023-2024 school year. WMS is searching for educators who have a personal educational philosophy that aligns with Montessori principles. We are particularly interested in faculty members who hold a Montessori teaching credential. Strong candidates will also demonstrate commitment to culturally responsive and culturally affirming school culture and instruction. We are looking for candidates who exhibit a growth mindset, engage in reflective practice, and embrace a collaborative professional learning environment.

Summary

A full-time teaching position responsible for instruction and assessment in an authentic, multi-age level, Lower Elementary Montessori classroom. This role includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Modeling and fostering a sense of community 
  • Modeling and fostering a developmentally appropriate amount of 
  • Using Montessori pedagogy and materials for instruction and assessment 
  • Record keeping in an online platform (Transparent Classroom)
  • Engaging in collaboration with all faculty members
  • Mentoring and guiding students in their academic and social development
  • Liaising with the Student Support team to support the neurodiversity in student learners
  • Cultivating productive relationships with our community partner organizations 
  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
  • Enthusiasm for participating in curricular travel opportunities is a plus. 

Qualifications

The well-grounded candidate will have experience teaching middle school students in the subject listed above or related fields. We are looking for people who possess: 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Teaching credential 
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • A deep knowledge of assigned content areas 
  • A lifelong desire for continuous personal growth and professional learning 
  • The ability to creatively match academic and real-world challenges to a variety of student skill levels 
  • The ability to create a learning environment that engages students 
  • Commitment to the principles and goals of Montessori education 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Montessori teaching credential from an AMS, NCME, or AMI education program (or any other MACTE-accredited course)

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Travel, possibly internationally

Role Title: Floating & Early Childhood Assistant Teacher (Late)
Fair Labor Standards Act Classification: Non-Exempt, 12-month position
Reports To: Head of School
Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Westside Montessori School (WMS) is looking for a Floating & Early Childhood Assistant Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. WMS is searching for candidates who enjoy and are passionate about working with children of all ages, especially early childhood and lower elementary children. Candidates who have an interest in working in and learning about a program that follows Montessori principles are encouraged to apply.

Summary
The Floating & Early Childhood Assistant Teacher is a full-time position responsible fora range of child supervision and teaching duties. This role includes, but is not limited to:
• Co-planning/co-creating and delivering age-appropriate activities that engage students in meaningful learning
• Maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment for children • Helping with daily activities including snack and lunch set up and clean up, dressing and undressing, toilet, nap time, music and art, practical life activities, sensorial work and cooking projects and outdoor play.
• Collaborating with other teachers and assistants to create and engage in child-centered learning activities
• Ensuring a continuous flow of the classroom when the Lead Teacher is giving lessons to individual students or to small groups
• Modeling and fostering a developmentally appropriate level of independence for children
• Learning and using a Montessori approach, emphasizing hands-on learning with children
• Engaging in collaboration with all faculty members• Encouraging and teaching children to interact with each other in kind and gentle ways
• Maintaining a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
• Respects and protects the privacy of children, parents, and staff
• Follows the guidance of the Lead Teacher

Qualifications

• US work authorization

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Regularly walks to help transition students from class to class
• Active supervision of children in indoor and outdoor spaces

Classroom Substitute Teachers

The person(s) selected for this position will be called upon on an as-needed basis when a classroom teacher or classroom assistant is absent. We have a student population ranging from 18 months through eighth grade.

The successful candidate(s) must have a high school diploma and must have previous experience in a licensed education facility or school. Some college is preferred. The person(s) selected will exhibit a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, parents, and other employees, exhibit proficient written and oral English communication skills, be willing to fulfill the responsibilities in accordance with the Montessori philosophy of the school, and, most importantly, be willing and able to come to work on short notice.
